Evy Films is Evy Barry
writer and director

I love video; shooting it, directing it, watching it and using it for art and I’m lucky enough to work in it.

I’ve been in broadcasting for over ten years making high quality documentaries and working my way up from Researcher to Producer/Director.

My production career began at ITN factual, but I went on to work as a freelancer on a variety of programmes some of which brought me into contact with the stalwarts of current affairs broadcasting.

I worked on a chat show for ITV called Trevor McDonald Meets The Newsmakers for which I had to brief Trevor on guests like Hollywood actress Kathleen Turner. I also remember well working with David Frost on ‘Debate Of A Lifetime’ at the BBC to celebrate his 40 years in broadcasting and on a programme called ‘Libel’ which was Kelvin MacKenzie’s (Ex-Editor of the Sun) first documentary on UK television.

One of the most well known films on which I worked as series director, was ‘The Torso In The Thames.’ I was embedded with detectives investigating one of the most high profile murder investigations this country has ever seen and the first ritual murder inquiry in the UK.

This film was nominated for best science programme at the Indie Awards so of course there was a follow up film called ‘The Search For Adam’s Killers. ’ Shocking elements included a trip to Nigeria, a human trafficking gang, a black magic potion and a juju priest - experiences of which I am unlikely to forget in a hurry.

My next film I made for Five was; ‘The Boy With A Tumour For A Face. ’ It was also nominated for best science programme at the Indie Awards. It focused on a young Indonesian boy who had the largest facial tumours in medical literature and doctor’s pioneering attempts to save his life and his face.

I then went on to freelance Produce/Direct other documentaries such as the series Murder Squad for ITV which involved filming Metropolitan Police Detectives for nearly a year as they investigated murders in the capital.

More recently I decided to embrace the technology driving the broadcasting industry by joining pioneering website Kent TV run by Geldof’s production company Ten Alps.

I spent a couple of years here shooting and editing content. I was also News Editor, choosing stories and allocating them to the video journalists. While here, I filmed a range of well known people from Tracey Emin to Joanna Lumley to Janet Street Porter and subjects from health to education to art.

One good example of the films I shot here was the day protesters at Climate Camp in Rochester converged on Kingsnorth Power Station, protesting against a new coal-fired power station planned for the site. I was the only journalist to film protesters breaching the perimeter fence and clashing with riot police at the back of the existing power station.

As to what happens next that may be up to you, if you would like to discuss a project, please contact me.

Evy was great to work with... resourceful, dedicated, with a great eye for a story and excellent people skills. She'd be an asset to any production'
